Ever since I started dabbling with impasto (years ago!), I wanted to try painting a magnolia tree - its large flowers lend themselves beautifully to impasto - and I finally did!
I was also really excited by the composition - just a single tree, no distinct background, focusing purely on the magnolia flowers and some of the tree trunk and branches. I think the result is great - it is so calming and pleasing to look at. I hope you like it as much as I do! :)
Size: 80 x 80cm
Materials: High-quality Old Holland oil pigments, Winsor & Newton oil colour medium and impasto, on a mounted, bleached cotton canvas, 3.8cm deep.
